PowerTerm – Installation Instructions

  1. Download PowerTerm for 98 ME 2000 XP software link found at www.ci-inc.com/downloads to your desktop.
  2. Double click the desktop icon, WinZip Self-Extractor opens. Click Unzip. When files are unzipped successfully, click OK, then select Close.
  3. Double click My Computer, drive C, EricomProv8.8, and find setup32.exe, then double click it
  4. The Ericom Software, Thank you for choosing PowerTerm Setup window opens, click Evaluate,
  5. The welcome to Ericom Software PowerTerm Setup screen displays, click Next, select Accept, on the Software License Agreement window
  6. At the Select Product window, first choose PowerTerm Pro, then at Sub Product scroll to, For UNIX, and then click Next,
  7. On the Setup Type Window, choose single user installation, then click Next, Choose Destination Location, use the Destination Folder that is selected, then click Next
  8. Accept the displayed Program folders then select Next, Complete User Information
  9. At Check Setup Information screen choose Next. Copying begins.
  10. Choose Place Icon On Desktop, click OK, then select Exit and launch PowerTerm Pro

    Note FOR WINDOWS VISTA USERS (you need to do this ONCE):

    1. Right Click on the Powerterm desktop icon.
    2. Choose Properties
    3. Choose the Compatibility Tab
    4. Select the “Run this program in Compatibility Mode for” check box
    5. Choose “Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
    6. Uncheck “Run this program as an administrator”
    7. Click on Show settings for all users
    8. Uncheck “Run this program as an administrator”
    9. Click on OK
    10. Click on OK
    11. Right Click on Powerterm desktop icon.
    12. Choose: “Run as Administrator” and answer “Yes” to get it to run

  11. Uncheck Show Tips at Startup, and then click OK. If a Connection Status Box opens, click Disconnect, or wait for time out to occur and click OK.
  12. Connect window, with Emulation tab, select ANSI, SCO ANSI, hostname = ipaddress of server, then click connect, the terminal screen should display a login prompt.
  13. Select terminal / setup / general / ups set = code page 851, then Display / enable soft fonts
  14. Select the printer tab, uncheck the box – Use Form Feed
  15. Select the preferences tab and make the following changes –
    1. On PowerTerm Start – click on auto connect
    2. In the Window title type in The Business Edge,
    3. On PowerTerm Exit – click on save terminal setup
    4. Confirm save – Click on yes
    5. Save Window Size and Position – Click on this box
    6. On Session Exit – click on auto reconnect
    7. Click on OK on the bottom of the screen
  16. Position screen to preferred size and location
  17. Select View / tools bars – Uncheck Views
  18. Select View – Uncheck Function Buttons
  19. Terminal / Colors /- Click on Disable Host Colors
    1. Select Attribute /normal / text dark blue / background / medium gray
    2. Select Attribute / reverse / text white / background / dark blue
    3. Click on OK on the bottom
    4. Select File /save / save as / c:\program\files\ericom software\powertermpro.ptdef.pts

Notes

  1. To get the excel link to work, the Vista system also needs this done to it:
    • Open the Run command and type “secpol.msc” and click OK. If this does not work, see below
    • Click on “Local Policies” –> “Security Options”
    • Navigate to the policy “Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level” and open it.

    By default Windows Vista sets the policy to “NTVLM2 responses only”. Change this to “LM and NTLM – use NTLMV2 session security if negotiated”.

  2. If you are not running Vista Business (secpol.msc does not exist), here is what you need to do:
    1. Run the registry editor and open this key:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
    2. If it doesn’t already exist, create a DWORD value named LmCompatibilityLevel
    3. Set the value to 1
    4. Close the registry editor
